Hello Everyone.
After many days of travel we have arrived at our home for the month in Vilanculos, Mozambique. This country is so beautiful! Mozambique is very poor… the roads have huge potholes and the grocery stores are small and barren.
Traveling was an extended adventure. Our plan: 4 girls plus our host family will drive in the car, the boys will take public transportation for 12 hours into Mozambique, spend the night camping in Xia Xia, and then drive for 7 hours to Vilanculos. Upon arriving in Xia Xia we found out that the trailer we were pulling was desecrated because of the bumpy roller coaster road coming into town. So, Jaco, our host, drove half of our team and the family the 7 hours to Vilanculos, drove back 7 hours to pick up the remaining three team members, and then drove us 7 hours back to Vilanculos. Needless to say Jaco is thrilled to finally be home.
I was among the three who stayed in Xia Xia. We enjoyed two nights sleeping on the beach. We also learned our first lesson about keeping an eye on our belongings when our food bags were stolen while we slept the first night.
We are staying with a missionary family from South Africa. Jaco and his wife, Maria, their two children, Maggie and Rudolph, Three Jack Russell Terriors, Chickens and Turkeys. They live outside of town on the edge of a lake. It’s so so pretty. We’ll be doing an extended bible study on healing, visiting families and churches, and working with the orphanage they are fundraising to build.
We also have some new teammates for the month. Michael and Tyler Black will be joining us for the month. (They are the sons of Gary and Lisa Black who did our training last week in Swaziland). Theses boys are amazing… we are so lucky to these little brothers with us for the month!
And finally… some big news… we’re finally sleeping in our tents! Internet is accessible but super expensive… so we will do our best to keep up on emails and blogs.
That’s all for now!
