I am Delaware born and raised. Nope, Delaware is not part of Philadelphia, not in New England, not just a joke from Wayne’s World. It’s a real full-fledged state… the first one actually! I have wonderful faith-filled parents, a huge younger brother, a couple of Grandmas, Aunts and Uncles, some crazy cousins… all in all a pretty incredible group of people that I am so blessed to be a part of. On top of that I have been given some amazing friends and whole big huge church family!
I went to the University of Delaware and miss it like crazy. I am happy most of the time. I like exercising and athletic challenges. On that note, I love sports but am not especially talented or knowledgeable about most of them. So maybe I just like the idea of sports. I played Rugby during college. I loved it but, I am very happy to be a retired superfan. I am a church enthusiast. I turn off my computer when it’s running slow even though you’re not supposed to. I love the south. I rarely act my age. I love kids. Smiling is my favorite. I love dogs but own a cat. I like to sing along to the radio. I think that being normal is one of the worst things I can imagine.
My faith journey started at 4 years old when I got to leave the nursery and trek up to “big church” to be baptized with my baby brother. Growing up as a Christian is like a rollercoaster. There are times when my faith has been strong and times when I have been too stubborn to accept the guidance that God provides and gone at it my own way. I am just thankful that through all my pride and sometimes sheer stupidity God has never let me get off the ride!
God brought me to the World Race in an awesome way. My senior year of college, instead of going to Physical Therapy school, I decided to take a year “to play.” My playground manifested itself as working in Student Ministry with an awesome and inspiring group of students, babysitting for two precious young men after school, and working at a Physical Therapy office… so far a little more work than play but I am loving every second. So anyway, I was sitting at my desk, again procrastinating grad school applications, when along comes an AIM brochure with info about the World Race. It has just taken off from there! From a good friend saying, “you’re a baby if you don’t do this,” to Pastors’ blessings, to my Mom reading blogs every single day… everyone has been so supportive.
I’m really looking forward to this experience. It’s a little overwhelming to think about getting from here to being ready to pack it up and ship out for a year. Thank goodness God already knows how it’s all going to happen! I can’t wait to travel the world on God’s terms, meet some amazing people, and experience the next piece of God’s plan for this little life. My goal throughout the World Race experience is to have “faith in small things”and experience some Godly courage in the big things.
