Hey guys!
I’ve never written a letter like this before, so I hope I do this okay. You may or may not know and love me, but my name is Sarah Buffaloe. I live in Huntsville, Alabama and I’m going overseas for a year as a missionary with AIM (Adventures in Missions) as part of The World Race. I will be spending 11 months abroad. 1 month in 11 different countries consecutively, spanning from Africa to Asia to Eastern Europe. I’m not taking any suitcases with me either. But one of those giant daypacks that you climb Mount Everest with and a tent to sleep in if we don’t have a place to stay. I am literally going to spend a year backpacking around the world for Jesus.
This is the absolute, crazy, walking on water, leaving everything I’ve ever known and every security, ludicrous way of following Christ. I’ll be trading every comfort of home and America for fried grasshoppers, bucket showers, squatty potties, dirt and filth, little sleep, and never knowing what you’re eating. And I am absolutely overjoyed!
What will I be doing as far as ministry? Teaching English in schools, building churches, telling people my story and how much God loves them, helping refugees and people caught in the web of sex trafficking, caring for orphans and widows and literally being the hands and feet of Christ. This may sound drastic and uncomfortable, even unnecessary when there is so much we can do at home where we live, from the comforts of familiar surroundings. And that’s true. But there are strange people like me out there who are called to abandon everything we’re accustomed to and follow the road less traveled.
Yes, the countries I will be going to are not tourist destinations and can be dangerous, but I believe that God will not take me anywhere where He won’t also sustain me. The countries I will be traveling to will be Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Cambodia, Thailand, Burma, Vietnam, Albania, Romania, Turkey and Bulgaria.
There it is. The next year of my life on paper. The white spaces in between the words being high highs, low lows, an even deeper relationship with the Lord, the people around me, and the joy of working for the kingdom and touching lives, whatever that may look like… From holding an orphaned child in my arms to talking to prostitutes in the red light districts to telling people that Jesus is alive, any way we can in restricted nations.
I will be blogging steadily through the trip and will actually be starting on it very soon. So you can see how I’m preparing for the trip and give you a detailed account of the training camp we go through about two months before we leave. My blog address is www.sarahbuffaloe.theworldrace.org. Keep up with me here and see what the daily life of a missionary looks like! You can also support me by giving online at this blog spot. We’re set to launch around September 1st of this year. Follow my blog and stay up to date with everything that’s going on!
The total cost of the trip with insurance and everything is $16,250. But does not include the gear I will need to purchase for the trip. I know this sounds like a lot of money but I have full confidence that God will supply all of my needs according to His riches in glory. And that’s where you hopefully come in?
Please pray and search your heart and see if God is calling you to support me in this mission some way. However that looks from a one-time thing to, (even better!) a monthly gift of whatever God puts on your heart? Donations are tax deductible and the website is secure if you wish to give that way. Every dollar given is another minute I can hold that child, kiss that boo-boo, knock on that unsuspecting door and say the words, “Jesus loves you.” Please send me. And finally please pray for me. Whenever the Holy Spirit brings me to your mind, please pray for me, my team and the people we are going to come in contact with. Pray that their hearts will be open and softened and sensitive to the Holy Spirit. Please remember me when I’m out of sight, on the other side of the world loving on people because you got me there. I pray that God blesses you abundantly and returns to you ten-fold everything you pour into me.
Blessings in Christ!
Sarah Buffaloe
