These past 6 weeks in the Philippines have been amazing. I wanted to give you an idea of what exactly I have been up to and what a normal day (Monday) here is like.

8:15am- Wake up and head down to breakfast. On the way to breakfast I get at least 5 sarcastic complements on my crazy bed head.

9:00am- Start getting ready to leave for a feeding. This consists of carrying two huge plastic tubs filled with rice and veggies the temperature of lava up a flight of stairs and into the back of a car.

9:30- Leave for Tent City. It’s about an hour drive depending on the crazy traffic but we do pass by some amazing views of the mountains.

10:30- Pull into tent city, open all the windows and start yelling, “FEEDING”. We drive to the middle of the area park and start dishing out food. Tent city was started a few years ago when a typhoon flooded out an entire village and everyone had to be evacuated. Once everything was dried out the landlords did not let any of the families move back, so an entire village became homeless. Luckily with the help from different organizations hundreds of homes have been built for these families on a tiny piece of land.

10:40- pop open the trunk and start dishing out food while trying not to burn yourself or the child handing you a metal bowl that becomes a million degrees once it is filled with food.  Children are running towards the car from all directions, some of them completely naked with just a bowl in their hand. While we dish out the food a nurse hands out vitamins and medicine to the parents. The hardest part is when we run out of food and there is still a long line of children with empty dishes and we have to tell them that we will be back on Thursday.

12:00- Lunch time!! We sit down to a steaming bowl of rice and some sort of soup and start sweating to death.

1:00- nap time

2:30- bakery run. We have a bakery right down the street with fresh doughnuts and rolls for 2 or 10 cents.

3:00- walk up to the orphanage. All of the little ones are just waking up from their afternoon nap so we give out crackers and put in Barbie swan lake which is by far the worst movie ever.

3:30- Take the nursery kids outside to play. While outside deal with at least on crying child while simultaneously yelling at the others to stop throwing rocks, to get off the slide, to stop hitting, and to keep their pants on.
5:00- Start feeding the babies dinner. Feeding 9 babies and toddlers rice all at the same time is just a mess. I end up with al least a fist full of rice in my hair and he floor is completely covered in food.

5:30- bathe the kids. Everyone involved in this process gets soaking wet and soapy.

6:00-chase down all the naked children and put them in their pajamas. Get goodnight hugs and kisses and head back to the house for dinner

9:00- Night time snack. Jump on a trik and head to the mini stop for an ice cream cone for 40 cents.

11:00- Watch a movie to drown out the street karaoke and fall asleep.

So I wanted to add some photos to this blog but they are not uploading fast enough so here are some links to my facebook pictures this should work even if you don't have a facebook account. If they don't work let me know
