Community Sucks

If your an only child like me or if you did not grow up sharing things with siblings or family then you will agree that World Race community sucks. It does not seem how you thought it would be. It blows. Your never alone. You are never allowed to go off alone. You have to put in headphones to watch a movie when others are sleeping. People take your things without asking because they have asked one time before. People will annoy you.  There are at least 6 people sharing one bathroom and if you are in a home like I am this month there are 17 of us sharing one bathroom. They will say off the wall things and you can't get in your car and drive away. People have word vomit. And the worst thing is you didn't choose these people to live with. You didn't pick from a list of people on the race and say "I will choose to live with them". It's like they pick the worst people on the squad for you to live with and thats who you are stuck with.

I will be heading into month 8 of the World Race in one week. It does not get easier. Community gets harder. I feel that it gets harder every month. Each month is a month longer you have lived with these people and things will continue to annoy you more and more. You had grace at first but it tends to wear off.

Well, let me tell you. Without community I would not be who I am today. Without the word vomit I wouldn't have learned how to give grace. Without people taking my "things" I would never have learned that these "things" don't actually belong to me. Nothing in this world belongs to us. Without having annoying people I would not be as grateful as I am now for my alone time, my one bedroom apartment and the freedom in America. I am grateful for my bathroom that is just mine. No one else is there to make it dirty and I am not sharing it with a man (eventually one day I will re-enter this and will share with one man only). Until now  I appreciate being alone. Men are dirty most of the time. Sorry but you are.

Matthew 18:20 "Where two or three of you are gathered together in my name, There I am with you"

I know God is definitely with all of us. He is teaching us so much through one another. There are four girls and two guys on my team and I am learning more through this thing called "community" during the past 7 months than I have my whole life. If you want to be forced to do things out of your comfort zone and live with people whom you may not have chosen to hang out with at home. The World Race might be for you.

Meet my community

——————————————————————————————————————————-

Next week, April 1, I will be heading to Eldoret, Kenya. I will finally be in the Kenyan bush. We will be doing some construction and hanging out with the community. It is mission work a past World Race team set up. On the 23rd of April my parents will be flying to Nairobi, Kenya and I will meet them there with half of my squad meeting up with their parents. During this time our parents will be experience what the world race is about. They will compact what we have seen in the past 8 months into one week. That is not possible but they may get close. Pray for my parents as they travel to meet up with other parents and myself on the 23rd. Pray for safety and health while they are here.
