Friends,

It’s been a full month since being on the field, so I wanted to share a little bit about how I’m doing.  I really like lists so that’s how I decided to format this today.

Things I’ve learned:

  • Community is hard.  Living, eating, working, resting and playing with the same six people is great, when it’s good and really hard, when it’s not.
  • I can live without a laptop.  Yep, about two weeks ago my three year old computer decided to stop working.  I was surprisingly cool with it.  It’s going home today and it’s not clear yet if I’ll get it back in the field.  This tiny device in my hand (my iPhone) is pretty powerful, but I did have to give up some things for the simplicity of not having it.
  • Creating art in some way is an important part of who I am and how I connect to God.  I’m making it a priority.
  • I am not good at surfing, but I could probably do it if I had more time to practice.

Critters we lived with at La Red

– Cockroaches

– Geckos

– Bats

– Large centipedes

– Ants (strong ones)

– Large lizard thing, not really an iguana, I forget what it’s called

– Opossums

– Hummingbirds

Things I was grateful for in El Salvador:

  • Showers
  • Beautiful views
  • Safe town with welcoming people who are used to people who can’t speak English
  • Our host
  • My team
  • My hammock and a place to hang it
  • Real toilets
  • Our living space in general
  • The ocean
  • Wifi when I have it
  • My team
  • Play is a universal language that all children know (so is my “teacher voice”)

Things I have a new appreciation for at home:

  • Washing machine and a dryer, especially a dryer
  • My bed
  • An over abundance of wifi
  • Being able to communicate with my friends easily
  • Morning dog snuggles
  • My decisions usually only impact me
  • Hot water from the tap
  • Drinkable water from the tap
  • A personal vehicle

Overall, it was a great month, one that I know I will look back on fondly many, many times over the next 10 months and the rest of my life.  It’s time to move on now.  We have been in Guatemala for the last five days and I already love it!  We have been at debrief since we’ve been here, it’s been a time of rest and reflection for our teams and as a squad.  Today we are moving on to our ministry site in Chimaltenago and I’d love for you to join me in prayer as we move forward.

With love from Antigua, Guatemala,

Sara

Our next funding deadline is fast approaching on September 30th.  I’m about $700 away from that requirement of $13,000 and about $5,000 away from being fully funded. I’d love for you to join me on this journey by supporting me financially.  If you feel led to give please click the donate button above or email me directly with questions.

P.S. There really is an ACTIVE volcano out our window.  Check it out.
