Our time here in Malaysia has been great, I can hardly believe in just over a week we’ll be headed to our final country.
This month we’ve been primarily working with PenHop, that’s Penang House of Prayer. Most of our days are spent in a larger room, think modern church sanctuary, where we spend our time in a few different ways. We have personal devotion time, small group intercession prayer, worship with the word and various types of corporate worship. We also do a little cleaning. 😉
While I have been growing in my understanding of prayer and intercession over the last few months I was not overly excited about this month when we arrived. Historically I prefer tangible results and a sense of accomplishment, but to be honest I haven’t gotten much of that on the race, so I don’t know why I would have expected this month to be any different. But it’s been great, some of the most challenging time on the race and some of the most fruitful.
In this time we’ve prayed for our teams, our families, missionaries around the world, unreached people around the world, and the people right here in Malaysia. We experienced one of the most exciting times in Malaysian history as a historic election took place here last week and we got to be a part of it through prayer and intercession. And what’s even better, we saw the results of that prayer. In an election where there was doubt about the outcome and how the people on either side would respond there has been very little upheaval. Power, so far, has transitioned peacefully.
In addition to that we’ve learned the biblical importance and significance of prayer and intercession. Over the course of the race my favorite biblical example of intercession has been when Moses intercedes for the Israelites, Exodus 33:15. So many times we see people in the Bible who have a personal relationship with the Lord to the point where they appear to be arguing with God. In our teaching on intercession earlier in the month what stuck with me most was “God is looking for people in agreement with his own heart.” Meaning he wants us to seek what His heart is and one of the ways to demonstrate that is to have a conversation. God desires a relationship with us, and dialogue is part of any good relationship. We have the opportunity to stand in the gap for those around us. Just as Jesus intercedes for us with God, we can intercede for others.
Wow there is so much good stuff here that I’m rambling! Regardless, it was so great to spend the majority of our time in that way. We also had the opportunity to work with a homeless feeding program and work at a refugee school. Both humbling experiences.
As we have one week left here I’d love to ask you how I can personally and specifically be praying for you! Leave a comment or send me an email. I’d love to come alongside you in prayer even on the other side of the world.
I highly encourage you to take some time to intercede for those around you and investigate the biblical evidence of intercession. The results you will find are well worth it. I’d love to share any resources I have, just reach out and let me know.
