No heart-pounding adventure stories in this post, but the quieter questions and thoughts in my heart over the past few weeks:
To know Him is to love Him, but what about when He injures us? Do we still choose Him again? When we realize the call, this weight of glory, might be more that we bargained for?
It is truly a fierce battlefield when I and my enemy are inclined to agree that the journey is too much, the road too steep, and the cost too high.
Sometimes the Lord does injure us. It is a shepherd’s technique – to break the legs of a wandering rebellious lamb, and then carry the lamb around his neck until the legs had healed – a place where complete reliance is the only choice.
‘Come, let us return to the Lord. He has torn us into pieces but He will heal us; He has injured us but He will bind up our wounds.’ Hosea 6:1-2
I am thankful that the wounds made by the Lord are safe wounds, they are made cleanly and without poison. He does not leave them open, but bandages them gently as we are held in His arms. While we may bear the scars, they are beautiful ones, placed with forethought and care – a reminder of His faithfulness.
Once healed, the lamb will always stay close to the shepherd – as it has learned not only how to trust, but that the Shepherd is trustworthy.
