*This blog was written in April for my team the Selah Sisters. Since then we have had team changes and I am on a new team.

My team and I are the team of “This never happens.”

What this means is that pretty much everywhere we go, something weird and out of the ordinary occurs, and we hear a lot of people trying to assure us that “This NEVER happens.”

In Colombia, our flight had a secret gate change AND the plane took off early causing us to nearly miss it…

this never happens…

In Ecuador we show up to our ministry and they didn’t even know we were coming…

this never happens…

In Peru the water gets turned off for a week…

this never happens…

and the temperatures were upwards of 90-95 degrees…

this never happens…

and mudslides were overtaking the country…

this never happens…

In Africa we arrived at a ministry where the ministry host may or may not have signed up to be a host so he could find a white, American wife and we had to leave secretly 3 days later…

this never happens…

and then we were finally able to do ministry and evangelize to truckers, but on the first day we were stuck in hours of traffic and could only evangelize for a short time…

this never happens…

Are you getting the picture?

I haven’t quite figured out if people say this to comfort us or worry us, but regardless, this little phrase has become the slogan of our team, which sometimes makes us laugh and sometimes makes us cry.

The fact of the matter is, the race, and more importantly, God’s plans, are never what we expect. We may have a lot of out of the ordinary experiences, but we also get to see God work in a lot of out of the ordinary ways. Our experiences have allowed us to serve God in unique and challenging ways that have brought us closer to Him and each other.

Something that does always happen are team changes on the race, which for us is in a VERY short 2 weeks. My team and I have been insanely blessed with a bond so deep that we dread the moment we are split apart, and I think God gave of this bond through the, “This never happens” moments.

Thank you, God.

You are magnificently loved,
Sara
