Nope, not me.
I wasn’t mugged.
Pastor Victor, a God-filled man that we have the privilege of working with here in Peru, was mugged our first week here by 4 men outside of a bank looking for money he did not have. We were supposed to work with him our first several days here but could not because he was bed-ridden in the hospital.
This week we were finally able to meet him and his family… and let me tell you, they are a family of the Lord.
They are kind.
They are loving.
They are hospitable.
They are generous.
They are powerful.
They are faithful.
They are FUN.
They are the church in the streets of Callao, Lima.
Since being with Pastor Victor, we have been led to praying for the elderly, for local businesses, for the people of Callao to not be afraid of the flooding, for the Church, and for strength in God’s children (we even prayed for Pastor Victor’s family in 10 feet of space in the back of a local shop while singing worship songs and sharing a glass bottle of coke).
We have been led to encouragement through a family meal of tea and bread (there is nothing sweeter than LITERALLY breaking bread with the family of God). We got to hear how Pastor Victor was called out of drugs and into a calling to preach God’s Word. We listened to what it means to have the characteristics of a Christian and how to live that out. We clung to every word as he explained the great faith he has in the Strong and Faithful One. He knows God sees him and knows God is with him.
We have been led to working in a special needs home, playing musical chairs and sharing Bible stories.
We have been led to a church service, to sharing our testimonies, and to praying healing over the sick.
Tomorrow we will be led to a day jam packed with home-cooked Peruvian meals and walking the streets of Callao praying for families, businesses, health, and ultimately, the salvation of everyone we meet.
I’ll be honest- this month has been HARD. REALLY HARD. But God is so gracious to give us new family that we can sit around a table with, breaking bread, and encouraging one another. We are so excited to keep working with Pastor Victor and see where the Lord takes us with His ministry!
You are magnificently loved,
Sara
