This summer I will be working as the women’s work crew boss at Wind River Ranch, a Christian family ranch in Colorado. This has been a dream of mine for years!

I had previously looked into working at this exact ranch while I was in college. Not having the confidence, or feeling anywhere near qualified, I never completed my application.

On the race, I found out that Vanessa, one of my squad leaders, had been on staff at a ranch in Colorado. What are the odds she worked at Wind River, right? Well yes, of course that’s the one! There were a whole bunch of reasons why God put me on M Squad, but I couldn’t be happier to now have a connection to the place I’ve had my eyes on for years.

Sooooo, I finally completed my application.

Thanks, V!!

On my application, I said I’d do anything. They gave me the position as a “wait”, someone who would serve the meals to the families each day. I was thrilled with the fact that I would be heading out there this summer. I have a strange obsession with mountains and I felt that the Lord had just given me the Rocky Mountains to gaze upon and explore. What more could I ask for?

Then I got an email. Just last week, the director of the ranch emailed me and offered me the role as the women’s work crew boss. This position places me as the overseer of the women staff at the ranch. I was super excited when I read the email, but almost immediately became fearful. I don’t know a thing about this ranch, how it’s run, or what my job would exactly be. But what I do know is that this job focuses heavily on discipleship to young women. That’s the part that had me so excited.

On the race, the Lord showed me how wired I am towards discipleship… specifically to young, college-age women. What makes my heart come alive is seeing people break free and truly come to know the Father’s heart.

Let me back up one year…

Last March, when we were in Honduras, we had done an exercise to help us pinpoint our vision.

My vision, if you haven’t guessed yet, is to be involved in some form of discipleship with young women.

We were given a scenario and asked to fill in the blank. We were to take our vision and put it into something tangible…a career or lifestyle.

“With unlimited money, unlimited time, unlimited resources, I would…”

Looking back in my journal, this was my answer:

“Serve as the women’s counselor at a Christian family ranch in Colorado, discipling the staff and families that came, enjoying the simplicity, yet hard work, of life on a ranch.”

Ok, I know. I know! I’m given completely unlimited resources and all I can dream up is a summer job on a ranch?? The answer is yes. Because for this season, that’s the desire in my heart. And I couldn’t be more thrilled with Him allowing me to have this opportunity.

I felt led to pursue opportunities to invest in other people after the race.

He planted the dream 3 years ago, but has just now opened the door.

All I can do is say, “yes.”
