I have arrived. I am officially a “current racer” and have officially started my World Race experience! I am in Washington D.C., chillin’ in a hotel room at the Holiday Inn with my team. We just finished making pizzas out of a tortilla, pizza sauce and cheese melted in the microwave! Mad props to our treasurer, team leader and logistics peeps for walking and hour in the heat to a grocery store and buying the food for us! We are ready, bring it on!
Rewind a few hours…
My parents drove me to Dulles airport, we arrived around 11:30am. I strapped on my huge, way too heavy for me to carry around hiking pack, my day pack, which is also too heavy and headed into the airport…3 1/2 hours before I really had to be there! We found a sit down restaurant….pretty much the only one in the airport before you pass into security. I have never been at an airport when I wasn’t leaving, picking up or dropping off. So it was an odd feeling to just hang around and waste time without checking bags.
When it was time for my parents to leave, my mom prayed, I hugged them both and we all said the “I love yous” and “goodbyes.” Just then 4 of my squadmates walked up to me. It was so much easier to say goodbye to my family when I had another waiting for me to join them! God is so good and knows exactly what we need and when. I was able to walk away from my parents, for a year, without crying, because I had my World Race family to step right into. And an amazing Papa who will wrap His arms around me and keep me safe in His love.
Next up? We have a training session, some rockin’ worship and a night in lovely air conditioning. Starting tomorrow, we will be doing a “screen fast.” That means no laptop, no phone, no ipod, no nook. So if you try to text, call, FB or email, please know that I will get back to you as soon as possible, but for the next 48 hours, PEACE!
