I will be baptized on October 30, 2011 at my church.  This consists of water submersion after someone reads your story aloud in front of about 1000 people. I have put off being baptized for years…and I do not really have an excuse for it.  I have witnessed many baptism services and am always moved to tears by stories that are shared by courageous 2nd graders…teenagers…adults who are willing to stand up and tell the world that they have Jesus in their hearts.  I can do that.  I will do that.  Below is my testimony:

I grew up in a Christian home and attended church weekly with my family until high school.  As soon as I could talk my way out of going to church, I stopped attending.  As I went through my 20s, I started to feel frustrated, unsatisfied with work and relationships, easily stressed out.  I started to attend church again with my mom but still didn’t feel the connection.

God decided to speak to me through 2 things that I love: music and movies.  I went to see Passion of the Christ with my mom’s church and was surprised by how moved I felt.  On the way home, I listened to Creed by Third Day and the combination of the film and the song lyrics opened my heart and mind to begin a relationship with Jesus.

I was introduced to LCBC through Ultimate Frisbee.  That was 6 years ago and I have attended here ever since.  I have spent the last 6 years really getting to know God and who I am through His love.  I want to be a constant representation of Jesus on the Earth.

God has placed amazing people in my life, including Sonja Waltman who is in the water with me today.  The Journeys class taught me that there are people in your life that serve as potholes and some that serve as guiderails.  Sonja has been my guiderail.  She has helped me strengthen my relationship with Jesus, taught me how to truly connect with others, pushed me out of my comfort zone, and is a constant support and friend.

I want to be baptized today because:   I want to tell the world that Jesus is my forever friend and that his light shines through me!
