It was a night of spontaneous adventure. One of my teammates, Hery, had to go into the city to get her knee checked out, she had fallen off the top bunk of a bunkbed a few months back and banged up her knee pretty bad. My whole team went with her for moral support.
We went exploring in a little city right out side of Plantanar and accidentally spent too much time at the local McDonalds.
Just so you all know, when on the World Race, if you find a McDonalds, it’s like finding your soulmate. I think it’s safe to say Kefi Kingdom found her soulmate that night. Because of a Happy Meal and sweet tea we lost track of time and we ended up having to run for the last bus of the night.
When we finally boarded the bus I had to sit on the floor because all of the seats were taken. I didn’t really want to be bothered so I just popped in my headphones and enjoyed the ride. As I’m listening to my Bethel worship playlist I hear a faint voice speak to me and say “Tell this bus about Jesus, somebody here needs to know I care.”
My response, “UHMM lol Jesus, you are funny. How about no.”
I had already settled it in my heart that I was just going to take this experience as a mild disobedience, tell my team, and then be ready for the feedback to be more bold.
But before I knew it I stood up and told Hery she was going to translate, because I was going to share the gospel on a bus full of Spanish speaking people and I don’t know Spanish, so here we go, it’s time to translate!
She was 100% down and my team prayed for what I was about to do. I stood up, braced myself, and shared the gospel with the entire bus. As I looked around their eyes told me two things:
1. I was a looney
2. They really wanted to hear what I had to say.
I led the bus in prayer and heard a few people accept the Lord. It was a crazy experience and I was absolutely shocked it actually happened. I was beyond excited of not only the result, but also my obedience.
I am learning to hear the Lord’s voice more clearly, but also to have confidence in hearing him. The only way to strengthen that voice and confidence is by obeying. And sometimes that just means you have to be ready for spontaneous obedience.
