50 hours of travel can really get to a girl.
It was about 4am when we rolled up to the Costa Rican/Panamanian border. We left Zion’s Gate in Tegucigalpa, Honduras at 10am on Saturday morning. We drove about 9 hours to Managua where we stayed the night in a “hotel” – no AC but INCREDIBLE cold showers that made us think we were at the Ritz! We woke up the next morning and barely made it to our bus at 6am. After a full day of riding we got to San Jose, Costa Rica around 4:30pm. After Pizza Hut and some internet we loaded up the bus bound for Panama at 11pm.
Five hours in to the old man behind using my chair for boxing practice while driving down a road made only of pot holes, a voice in Spanish came over the loud speaker. We stumbled off the bus, quite sleepy and a bit disoriented, and got in line for customs.
4am is a lovely time to be in a line of at least 60 people all wanting to occupy the same space. Everyone is just so chipper and helpful, especially when only one of 13 of you speaks the language…
Sitting on the dirty cement floor with some of my favorite people sleeping all around me (yes, on the same dirty floor…and on tables…and really wherever) the Spirit started speaking to my heart.
To my left, the sun was just beginning to make it’s appearance for the day. The clouds began to glow pink and gold against the brightening sky. It was beautiful – I love when the Lord paints the sky for me.
And then to my right was an incredible heat lightning storm. The flashes were bright and bold against the navy sky and no two bolts were alike. There’s something powerful about lightning, about it’s energy and color and movement.
“This is what I’ve been doing in Your heart, Beloved” I heard Him say.
“Something beautiful and something powerful. Something new like the sunrise dawning on a new day and something fierce like the lightning flashing in the sky. Something that reflects my Glory majestically. I am SO proud of you, baby girl. Keep fighting.”
The words the Lord gave me for this month eleven are REJOICE and CELEBRATE.
I asked Him to work out all the re-entry fears and anxieties last month – which He faithfully did – so that this month in Panama could be full of His joy and victory, a month to reflect and celebrate this unbelievable journey and live presently in each moment.
He is doing something powerful, something new, something beautiful and fierce in my heart in this sweet season. I am SO grateful for this journey and so looking forward to our month in breath-taking Panama!

not the actual pictures from this morning…but you get the idea.
