and in the previous post, my reply is that there’s plenty in a name.  i reflected a bit on our team name/identity/birthright.  so, just out of curiosity and as my obligatory “hey-y’all-these-people-are-my-teammates” post, i browsed the web for the definitions of their names.

so this is our quasi-official family portrait. . .
standing, left to right:  ben, neil, dennis

seated, left to right: bev, carly, sara, brenda

in alphabetical order by first name, here’s the dunamis ohana (i used behindthename.com):

ben:  “son of the south” or “son of the right hand”. . . the twelfth and
youngest son of jacob and the founder of one of the southern tribes of
the hebrews. (hebrew)

bev:
“beaver stream” (old english). . .  it became common as an american feminine name after the publication of george barr mccutcheon’s novel beverly of graustark (1904).

brenda:   “sword” (english, old norse)
carly:   “army, warrior” (french, german)
dennis:   the greek god “dionysos”. . . a judge who was converted to christianity by paul (acts 17:34) (medieval french, latin, greek)
neil:   “champion” or “cloud” (gaelic/irish, scottish, english)
cornelius:  “horn” (latin).  in acts. . . cornelius was a centurion who was directed by an angel to seek peter.  after speaking with peter he converted to christianity, and he is
traditionally deemed the first gentile convert.
sara:  “lady” or “princess” (hebrew).

some of the etymologies seem kinda random, but i think all in all, each of us have a dynamic name.  and because of the Name we all bear – Christ – we are truly dunamis-ful.
