With two Felix family villages in western Romania and one in
the south of Thailand, Caminul Felix has been nurturing the physical,
spiritual, emotional and socio-economic needs of the orphaned and abandoned
children since 1990, when it was started by a couple who came over form Sweden.
Caminul Felix has two villages in Oradea, where we are at this
month, in the western part of Romania near the Hungarian border. The
organization consists of 16 families caring for over 200 children. There is a
home for each family, with a real Mommy and Daddy, and dogs and everything. The
children are integrated into the families at different ages and stay there
unless their biological parents take them out for some reason, which is rare.
The Mom and Dad typically have biological children to who just go along with everything
around them.
This month we have gotten to work alongside those families. We
are staying in a hostel/hotel type of situation and going out everyday to help
build a house or add an addition on to two existing houses. We have also been
able to build relationships with some of the kids that are living in these
houses.
It’s been an awesome month so far of getting our hands dirty,
celebrating the fourth of July, and enjoying the endless corn and sunflower
fields that are on the farm we are at. A perfect place to end the race.
