A New Tone…

So far this month we have been working with an English school
in Lugansk, Ukraine called NEW TONE. We have been going in 5 days a week and
sitting in on classes and helping the students with their conversational
English. Somedays I think I learn more about English then the students know.
🙂  Then they ask why the grammar
is like that and we just stare with our months gawking open and think “because
that’s what my mommy taught me. Minus the awkward English moments we have had
an awesome time getting to know the students and teachers at New Tone. There are three schools and since there are six of us we paired off and went to each
school. Amy Learn and I have been together for the last two weeks.  It’s been awesome to spend time with
her and have mini little adventures each day. I won’t miss the classes but I will surely miss the people!

To be a little cliché, the Ukraine has given us a new tone for the last two months of The Race. When we arrived we were
in a bit of culture shock at how westernized it is here. We are finally in a
place where we don’t have some type of nickname or we’re pointed out because we are WHITEThe only that makes us stick out is our grungy race clothes and only being able to speak English. The first night we sat in McDonalds and it was like the catwalk at Fashion Week. Everyone was dressed to the T and they were showing a lot of skin!!  … and that’s when the self-consciousness sets in. “My body doesn’t look like thatâ€
“My shoes and clothes are gross, MUST buy new ones “ I wish I looked like
that. Lies lies lies. Beauty is not found in a push-up bra and mini-skirt,
it’s found in the heart and the God of this universe. Today I picked up a weed,
yes a weed, and looked at it. It had this cool little design on it and I said
“wow God is so creative!â€  It’s
hard working and lving in a place where God’s creative hand is looked past and
where they strive for a superficial beauty. Thanks God for creatively making me
beautiful, no matter how gross my hair is!!!

* Yes that is a tangent far from where I was going but I like
it! I hope you do too!
