I know that I am actually the worst at blogging, and I am sorry about that! I really wish I had kept up with it better than I have. I am going to do my best to post a blog every week from now on!
This blog is going to be about my last two countries in Africa. I was in Zambia for 1 month and Malawi for 2 months. Africa was unlike any place I’ve ever been in my entire life. Holidays are different, interactions with people are different, and even the way we worshipped the Lord was different.
Zambia, for me, was the hardest country on my race. It was a lot different than Zimbabwe in many ways. I didn’t live in a big city, so I was surrounded by a lot more poverty and people worshipping different things that weren’t Jesus. Our ministry included going to an old folks home in the morning and a village soccer field to play with kids in the afternoon. It was hard and days were long, but seeing how much love came from both these places was incredible. The old people were so sweet and so cute. Most of them didn’t speak english, so it was a challenge. I got really close to a man named Peter. He always called me madam and genuinely cared so much about me. I had a parasite and had to miss ministry a few times, and when I would come back he would tell me how he has been praying for my health. Also, we got to visit one of the 7 natural wonders of the world, Victoria Falls! That was really cool. I’ve noticed along the race that I really connect with the Lord through nature. It was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen in my life.
Now onto Malawi. I really loved this country. I lived on a college campus, and I had no idea what to expect. It was called African Bible College (ABC), and so many missionaries lived on campus. It was like a little piece of America all the way in Africa. Everyone was so friendly and compassionate. It was cool to hear all of their stories when we got together for a dinner every Friday. Ministry in Malawi was something new. We basically got to pick what we wanted to do. So, Sydney and I worked in the clinic in the morning doing paperwork, and in the afternoon, we taught swim lessons. It was really cool. Then on Tuesdays we went to a village and taught english and math, and Fridays we went back to the village and did a woman’s bible study or VBS. It was really super sweet to see how passionate people were about Jesus in this village. It really warmed my heart. Guess that’s why it’s called the warm heart of Africa!
So there it is! Here’s my Africa blog. A prayer request would be to stay as present as possible because home is so near!! Comment below things I can be praying about for you guys!
