Month two flew by faster than I could type this sentence- seriously though.. time is flying by SO fast! It’s been 2 months since I’ve left Texas. I’ve lived in South Africa for 2 whole months. It feels like I just left yet at the same time it feels like I’ve been here forever. South Africa is so comfortable and home-like. I can walk 5 minutes to the grocery store and buy some Oreos or Nutella. I can sit down and order chicken tenders and french fries at a restaurant.. what a life! At the same time, month two has been challenging in new ways.

First off, the “newness” of the race has definitely worn off. Things aren’t as exciting as they were when we first got here. Now it’s more like: this is my life and my routine and my day to day. We are getting to know the community in a deeper and more intimate way. I’ve built real friendships with people here. I have a whole second family here that I see and interact with and laugh with everyday! And it’s weird because they live in South Africa, and I live in Texas, yet there’s just no holding back when it comes to the love that this community has for me. Our ministry this month has been different. When we got back from month one debrief in Pretoria, our squad split up and only 3 teams came back to Jeffery’s Bay- leaving us with new ministry’s. My team has been doing all sorts of things from feeding children in townships, to building a classroom at GLA, to working at an animal shelter, and cooking meals for the squad. Everyday I wake up and wonder “what’s today gonna be like” which is good because it keeps me on my toes, but it’s also a challenge when the other teams have consistent ministry’s like teaching in the schools, or working at an after school program, and my team really has to run with what we are given for the day. It has taught me that serving the Father looks like asking what needs to be done, and doing whatever the community is needing at that moment.

The women that I live with here- my squad mates, are really something else. They challenge me and grown me and shape me into a better person. I’ve learned how to love people in new ways. I’ve learned to serve the people around me out of love and with a “yes” in my spirit.

One of my favorite things I’ve gotten to do here so far is work along side the school’s founder and leader to create a fundraiser for the township children’s education. I’m currently creating a video for them to show their donors all about what they are giving to. It’s allowed me to give these children a voice and a chance at an education they deserve. I’ve also gotten to take photos of the campus we live at & of the ministry’s that our teams are doing for the schools marketing team. The opportunity to display what God has done for Global Leadership Academy, and the plans they have to further the Kingdom has been incredible.

Anywaaay, this has pretty much been what month two was all about!! Short and sweet. Thanks for reading
