I asked my mom to write a guest blog and here’s what she wrote!
“2017 has been a whirlwind of change for me. Not the simple changes in life, such as a new paint color in my bedroom, a new pair of shoes or a new gym down the street, but big changes. Huge changes! An end to a marriage, two homes full of memories sold, moving back in with parents at the age of 48, adjusting to an empty nest, starting a degree after 23 years of absence and sending a daughter on an eleven-month missions trip over seas, just to name a few.
I’ve never been fond of big change. Fear and discomfort come to my mind when I think of it. I’ve discovered that God uses change to grow me. It makes sense when I think about it. It reminds me of process of a seed growing into a flower. I think about the steps that it goes through. You know the steps; plant seed, water, sunlight, time, grow, repeat. The “end result” is an amazing masterpiece, unimaginable at first glance. All that change takes time and work. In my case, work and trust only come from my hope and faith in Jesus. He is the only one who can carry us through change. We can’t do it alone and who would want to?
God has brought me to places in 2017 that I never dreamed I could get to! Don’t get me wrong, some of these changes were the hardest decisions that I’ve ever had to make in my life. It was excruciatingly terrifying and painful, but it was worth it. The rewards of confidence and sense of achievement, among other things, are great but the greatest reward is having the privilege to know my Heavenly Father on an intimate level. I truly know His amazing love, joy and peace like never before! Yes 2017 has been a year worth living!
May I be so bold as to challenge you to take a step towards changing some area of your life that God has laid upon your heart? Trust Him, it’s well worth it!”
