FAMILY… that one word that means so much. Family is beautiful. Family is special. Family is grounded in love. Family is forever. Family is a gift that is to be cherished.

This past month I did a people fast which means not talking to anyone back home for a month, it was hard to do but it was good for me. So I decided to write a little bit about what family is and means to me. To thank those who are my family and who have become my family.

This is a love letter to my family.

Thank you Mom and Dad for life. Thank you for raising me and pushing me to be a better person. Thank you for loving me and providing for me even when it was hard. Thank you for loving me even when I didn’t show the love back. Thank you for fighting for me everyday. Thank you for being yourselves and being a shoulder to lean on when I need it. Thank you for not giving up. Thank you for being parents. Thank you for picking me up when I’m down. I love you.

Jess and Trevor, thank you for being my siblings. Not only my brother and sister but my friends. Thank you for adventuring with me, pursuing me and loving me even when I get on your nerves. You two have hearts of gold that are so loving and caring. I look to you both when I don’t know who else to talk too. Through thick and thin we stick together. So thank you. I love you.

My whole extended family… thank you for the love you show always. Thank you for supporting my family and being there to step in when things get hard. Thank you for giving me a family that is so big I feel as if I have 60+ built in friends already. Thank you for always loving, taking care of me and smiling through this journey called life. I love you.

To the friends who have become family. You know who you are! Thank you for loving me and pursuing after my heart. Thank you for being my friend the minute we met. Thank you for loving me well. Thank you for being the friends that I know will be there even if we don’t talk for weeks. Thank you for laughing with me and enjoying life with me. Thank you for being my family. I love you.

I’m learning the value of family everyday. That it is a gift and should not be taken for granted. I’m learning that family are the people you love, not just by blood. I’m blessed by the people who are my blood because I love them even more.

Ohana means family and family means nobody gets left behind, or forgotten.
