Can you believe three months has already come and gone? Can you believe that we just arrived to Ecuador, our fourth and final country? So many good things happened during our time in Costa Rica and I have to say that I’m quite sad to be closing this chapter of my life. The past three months have been an absolute whirlwind and to briefly summarize….
Costa Rica has been filled with :
Excitement and disappointment, joy and sadness, intimacy with the Father and distance from Him, easy times and hard times, flying home and coming back, happily meeting new people and dreading the day of saying goodbye, challenges and cakewalks, the wasting of time and best usage of it, attaining some goals and falling short of others, apathy and discipline, clarity and confusion, monotony and fun adventures, etc, etc. Some days it seems as though we were in Costa Rica forever, while on other days it feels as though we just arrived (as with every place we’ve been to). It feels as though we’ve traveled every inch of the country while at the same time as though we’ve only covered a microscopic part of its entirety. God feels so close, yet simultaneously far away, and to put it plain and simply: I don’t know what the heck just happened to me the past three months!
Dear Costa Rica,
From your food to your people, you have captured my heart; I think God had me in mind when he created you. Some of my favorite things about you are:
- Your constant sunshine
- Your warm summer breeze
- Las playas (the beaches)
- Gallo Pinto (famous Costa Rican breakfast rice and beans)
- Los Ticos (some of the most kind, caring, lovely people I’ve ever met)
- Los phrases de Ticos (the Tico phrases or Costa Rican slang—incredibly fun to learn. I miss being able to use it!)
- La Montaña (only one of my favorite places in the world 😉
- Our tropical mission house
- The monkeys at the beach that attacked me and stole Ashlynn’s ranch (can’t say they weren’t fun…:)
- The wild sloths (I can relate to these bad boys when it comes to taking naps)
- The joy that fills your streets
- And of course, your warm invite to live a ¡Pura Vida! (pure life).
As excited as I am to be in Ecuador and see what God has in store for me during the last stretch of the Race, I am sad to have left my new favorite country. You will forever be in my prayers, on my mind, and part of my heart. I’ll be back.
Con mucho amor,
-La Gringa Loca
