Jesus was, and is, perfect. He came to this earth with the intentions of loving us, and he continues to do so each and every day. He loves us in the most powerful and perfect ways. He never messes up, and He never has to apologize for what He is doing in our lives because it is always for our good and His glory.

As an imperfect person, it can be difficult to wrap my head around this concept. The one perfect being to ever step foot on this earth has called me by name and has told me He loves me.

Meanwhile, I’m over here screwing things up left and right, consistently forgetting the last good and glorious thing God has done for me. Overanalyzing this truth about Jesus’s perfection often leads me down a path of lies and shame. I look at all of my brokenness and I tell myself I am not good enough for Jesus’s love. I sin and think that there is no way I can be forgiven for all of my junk.

But then I am reminded of another truth; I was created to live a life two buttons off.

The Lord didn’t create me with the intentions of me living a perfect life. He doesn’t just accept us when we have on our nicest dress or button down shirt. He accepts us even when we show up disheveled and with our shirts two buttons off and stains on our pants.

He created us knowing that we would come to the end of ourselves and would need Him. He created us to love and to rely on Him. He created us knowing that we would never be perfect. He never intended on us being that way because Jesus already filled that place for us.

We get to walk in freedom knowing that our imperfection and brokenness is not only okay, but also accepted, welcomed, and redeemed. He wipes our slate clean each and everyday, always reminding us that when He forgives our wrongdoings He also abolishes them like they never existed.

So keep showing up. Keep living a life two buttons off. The role for perfection was already filled.
