Well hello my friends!
I hope you all haven’t been worrying about me as Team Undignified has lived the past month very far away from any sort of technology. I’m actually writing this while I’m still here in a village, somewhere in the province of Khampong Cham, but you’re not going to be able to read this for about 12 more days. 🙂 Not that I’m counting down the days or anything…
It’s actually incredible here. This is definitely the most remote location I’ve stayed in…ever. I’ve visited some pretty remote places, and the village in Thailand was kind of comparable, but nothing quite compares to the experience I’m currently having.
We are living in a sort of tree house, all sleeping together on the floor under a giant mosquito net. We have a squatty potty, interesting showers and a generator for electricity about two hours everyday. It’s definitely a shift from the past three months.
But, I feel like the most blessed woman to ever live. I feel like this village is one of God’s special secrets and most of His children will never discover it. Our contacts this month are these five young Cambodian men. Pastor Uee (30) and his two brothers, Umong (26) and U-try (21), along with Sit-ty (23) and Song (21) have been hosting us and taking better care of us than I could have ever imagined. They have definitely set the standard pretty high for any other men that ever want a place in my heart.
Our days are always different and always interesting. We don’t really have a set schedule, except that we teach English every night and it’s kind of hilarious. I’m in a classroom of about 25, 13-16 year old kids, trying, for the first time, to teach. I’ve begun using an awesome Children’s Bible called, The Jesus Storybook Bible (which I totally recommend,) reading them Bible stories and teaching them vocabulary that way. None of them are Christians and they won’t have any idea as to how to form sentences, but…lots of seeds are being planted, and I’m having a blast with it.
That’s pretty much the only thing that is set in our schedule and though the classes are in the evening, our days begin no later than 6:00am. There are lots of roosters in the middle of nowhere, Cambodia, along with monks that like to chant via loud speaker 24/7…so we are up with the sun.
And, that’s our month this month. There is so much more, but I’ll expand in later blogs.
