The Green Gospel
I feel as though I tend to write my blogs on deeper theological topics. However, this week I have nothing but praises for the Lord!
Before the Race I had taken up serious interest in gardening. Gardening of the fruit and vegetable variety I should say. The summer before launch I got the opportunity to help set up a small vegetable garden in a local community in Gainesville. The hope was to help provide healthy, low cost food for the families, as well as foster healthy engagement amongst the residents. I absolutely loved it! The Lord showed me how He could take my passions and my interests and use them for the good of His Kingdom.
Ever since then I had been praying that I would get a similar opportunity on the Race. Knowing the Race, knowing its structure and the kind of ministry Racers are typically involved in, it seemed like a far off prayer.
I prayed and prayed for agricultural ministry. I figured I would never get vegetable gardens, but at least I could tend a rice paddy or do something with the soil.
However folks, I am happy to say God out did Himself once again! I must really stop putting Him in a box, or thinking for some insane reason my prayers are too big for Him to answer. That is a bold-face-lie.
This month our squad is working with the AIM base here in Manzini, Swaziland. The main project of the base is the establishment of Care Points throughout the various communities. At the Care Points, young children receive pre-school education and older kids come to have a safe place to hang out. The children receive three meals a day, and are additionally mentored and ministered to. The dream is to raise up a generation of God-fearing individuals in Swaziland.
Where do I come in? Good question. AIM is hoping to establish a healthier more sustainable feeding program for the children; therefore they are starting to build small, manageable vegetable gardens at each of the individual Care Points. Five of my fellow squad mates and I are working with Lucky, the head of maintenance and agriculture at the AIM base here. Each day we travel to a different Care Point, where we help till the soil, pull weeds and plant rows and rows of lettuce, tomatoes and onions.
I am in complete ministry heaven this month! I don’t have much else profound to share besides my pure joy and God’s incredible provision. However, if you do take anything away from this blog, let it be this; there’s no such thing as a prayer too big for God. Go out at night and take a moment to gaze at the stars, marvel at the size of the universe, it’s expanse, it’s complexity and it’s order.
He created that. He thought that whole thing up.
How silly are we to think for even a moment that some aspect of our life is too big, too hard, or too complex for Him to work out. Pray big prayers, dream big dreams, because He is capable of all of it and more.
