Currently we are staying in Nelspruit, South Africa for month one debrief. My squad is split up into different housing and i’m living in a small room with three of my other squad mates. Yesterday a large group of strangers moved into our house with us four. When I first found out about this, I can’t lie to you, I was super nervous it was going to be really weird. We share a living space and a kitchen, but have different rooms next to each other, so we got to meet them in the kitchen while making breakfast this morning. Immediately they all greeted us with huge smiles and good mornings, the normal stuff and the conversation ended there.
A little later, most everyone went into town to shop but I stayed back to go hiking. Suddenly I found myself DEEP in conversation with my new neighbors. We talked for almost two hours about where they came from, what it was like to be a missionary, the differences in our cultures and how they came to know the Lord. They told me they were here for a conference celebrating the 100 year anniversary of their church.
I asked them if I could pray for them before they left for the conference and they got so happy so fast. I prayed over about 10 of them, they hugged me and thanked me. Then all of a sudden they were calling my name into their room and they asked me to pray over another group of them. So I did. Next thing I know there are even more of them asking me to pray over them. It was SUCH a beautiful moment. All of these people were so eager to just get a glimpse of Jesus.
We got to talk about how cool it is that we were from completely opposite parts of the world but yet we ended up in the same spot, brothers and sisters in Christ. Something I have been learning is to be bold and verbal with my faith and this was such a confidence boost. I loved this moment and had to share it because it shows that every moment is a ministry opportunity. Don’t be scared to be bold in faith, it causes immediate relationships and fills the room with happiness.
Some of them asked me to take a picture with them 🙂
