I’m currently in the middle of a 24 hour bus ride and with that, comes a lot of thoughts. Here is something I want everyone to sit with.
For the last month I lived in a Christian town, full of people who know Jesus. But this town is the extreme minority. 88% of this country’s population identify as Buddhists. Their country, government and military are ran with the core values of Buddhism. At first I saw my new Christian home as a little safe haven in this country, then I saw everything underneath. Because they proudly declare themselves as Christians, the government doesn’t provide funding for ANY of their schools. Down the street is convienently placed a “free” school, but in order to attend it you are forced to convert to Bubbhism. Christian soldiers aren’t allowed to move up in rank within the military because of their religious beliefs. Christians are out casts there. Christians are shamed there. We live in a country where we can genuinely and freely express our religious beliefs. How many of us actually take advantage of that? Does anyone see the opportunity that is right in front of them? A promise I made myself this year- to walk boldly and confidentially in my own skin and faith without shame or fear of rejection. I was born with the freedom, who am I not to use it?
