In Haiti, finding a tarantula in your living quarters was disturbing and called for a quick death via big shoe. Certainly, that was NOT the type of thing you wanted to find in or around your tent. As you can see from the pictures, we found a tarantula in the kitchen aka the boy’s room and called Tim in for the kill.

However, in Cambodia, tarantulas are not meant to be smashed. Instead, they are preserved in good form to be cooked with flavor and sold for snacks at the local market. Steph and our local contact Rachel went and bought 5 for a dollar. Unfortunately, it was not spider season so we got ‘small’ ones. Normally, they are only 2 or 3 for a dollar. But, for a first time experience, it was a good deal! See the video of every member of team Manna partaking in this local delight.

Even though I found myself even after eating saying “I can’t believe that I just did that!”  Even a few days later I am still shock.  But really, it was just crunchy and tasted a little bit like teriyaki.  With that said, it wasn’t so bad, but I will never do it again! 🙂
