My usual end-of-the-month “This is what I learned/experienced” blog…

Declarations really are good spirit medicine.

Doing declarations while standing on a bed + wearing matching sarongs is even better.

I have now stood in two places at once — the Northern & Southern Hemispheres.

Because of the language difference, my team leader, Laura, was Rorla all month.

Our team was given 10,000 different names this month… Saints of God, Soldiers of the Cross, and Internationals to name a few.

Eggrolls = a boiled egg inside a roll of fried potato.

Ugandans are SUPER hospitable. Every house we entered, they welcomed us with open arms and fed us.

Trading My Sorrows + Lord I Lift Your Name on High are two songs I could go without ever hearing again…

Ugandan Traditional dancing includes tying a fur thing around your waist.. yep. I tried it.

Worship team practice lasts 3-5 hours…

Here, it’s good if your wife is fat. More than once I heard men comparing themselves by the size of their wife… “She is fatter than that woman, but my wife is the fattest!”

White Water Rafting is AMAZING.

Bungee Jumping is even better + I would SO do it again.

Ugandan version of a drive-thru = our bus stopping, us opening the windows & buying chicken on a stick from the street vendors. πŸ™‚

“Reality checks” have become much more frequent.

One of my favorite things? A child falling asleep in my arms… happened several times this month. God loves me. πŸ™‚

When people sing, if someone is moved by the song, they put money in the singer’s pocket…during the performance. When JD free-style rapped/danced on our last Sunday, his pockets were filled πŸ™‚

Open-air showers…not the worst thing in the world.

We have two AMAZING men on Team Kindle — they have survived through so much with 4 hormonal women. Props to JD & Jared. πŸ™‚

A lot of children here are in boarding school. My best friend in Uganda took me to visit her sons.

The sound of rain hitting a tin roof is definitely my favorite sound in the world… I love it.

Our dog’s name is Bill Clinton. He’s not very friendly + super scared of storms. One afternoon, he snuck into our bedroom while it was storming + we were napping… he jumped in bed with Amber. Of course we have video footage of that. πŸ™‚

Meeting + spending time with other Americans is so refreshing. + shout-out to Angela Williams — thanks for hanging out with me + introducing me to Erica’s fam + the other study-abroad students. πŸ™‚

Somehow, something was lost in translation, and now the entire church believes that Sarah used to be a boxer. Once we realized the mistake, we did nothing to change it. πŸ™‚

JD had a child named after him.

Nazarenes are everywhere…

Impromptu preaching and or “choir” singing is not unheard of here… such as the calling up of 3 World Race teams to sing a special song in the middle of a graduation ceremony. Perfect.

Some Ugandans put an H in front of words that start with A… Amber has been Hamber all month. πŸ™‚

The Hokey Pokey is America’s favorite song/dance … at least that’s what Sarah told a church of 150 children in one Uganda village.

The Electric Slide is definitely an acceptable church-worship dance.
