72 years old. Her husband died 20 years ago. Her daughter, on the way to church one day, was kidnapped, raped, and killed. Soon after, her daughter’s husband was killed by gunfire while driving. Their son was left as an orphan.

These are just a few of the tragedies this jjajja [grandma] has faced throughout her life. During our first day of door-to-door, we sat in her house with her. Laura told me to share something.

After hearing these stories, what can you even say? Is there anything to say?

I moved down to the floor mat and sat beside her, holding her hand. Nothing else mattered. I forgot my team and the pastors were in the room. To me, it was just us. jjajja, me, and God.

“It seems too easy to say this, but it’s the greatest truth. God loves you. He is faithful. He is good.”

Then I shared part of a Psalm with her before we prayed. I told her she is beautiful — which evoked an ear-to-ear smile. She is beautiful.
She told us that even though she has been through so much pain, she believes that God heals. She knows that He is faithful. She knows God has never left her. She still knows God is good.

GOD IS GOOD.

On our last day of ministry, our pastor took us to the hospital to pray for this Jjajja. She was having problems with her blood pressure. She still had a huge smile on her face. I was able to sit on her bed with her and pray with her. I thanked God for allowing me to see her once more before I left Uganda. She thanked me for praying for her. We both smiled and leaned our heads together <— a moment I will NEVER forget.

Again,

GOD IS GOOD.
