In true "end-of-the month" fashion, here's my Kenyan experience…
My teammate Amber's shoes are so worn out that one of the women at church gave her 2 new pairs — and gave the rest of us girls each a pair. awesome!
I'm from Illinois. In Asia, that meant I was BFF with Michael Jordan. In Kenya, I should know President Obama personally.
Everywhere we walked, we saw White Sox, Illinois, Bears, Packers, etc. t-shirts & hats. One morning, I walked outside to see one of our neighbors in a White Sox jersey. She is blessed! π
Katengue! – Our contact & his wife had these made for us so that we could feel African. We decided that we look like the Golden Girls & know what we'll look like when we're 90. π

Mzungu = white person. everywhere we went, children shouted “Mzungu! How are you?”
When in doubt, say jambo rafiki!
We were able to go to Lake Victoria on one of our days off. Gorgeous!

Chapati + sugar = same taste as an elephant ear from the county fair.
Falling down a slope holding a small child = graceful. Thankfully, I sacrificed my left arm & Mark was just fine. π
Apparently white skin means I’m rich… boy have I got them fooled!
One of our sqadmates wanted us to make a music video to Circle of Life. Naturally, we hiked to Pride Rock to film. Perfect!

It is not uncommon to walk hand-in-hand with a friend of the same sex.
Nerts has become a team fave … we played for over 3 hours one night.
Squatty potties = good workout [especially if you have Jimmy Dugan syndrome].
I have fallen in love with pineapple Fanta. Mom, please have some stored up for my return home. π
With the sound of goats everywhere, if I close my eyes, I can picture myself at Grandpa's.
After dinner every night, we were able to watch Spanish soap operas dubbed in English… En Nombre del Amor became a team fave.
Extensions made for African hair do NOT keep well in Mzungu hair.
