I think it’s quite interesting that my favorite “ministry” day on the World Race came on the 2nd to last day of “ministry.”

Three days this week we were given the opportunity to work with kids with special needs.

Wednesday we took some of the older kids to the zoo — and saw an awesome bear fight! + I am pretty sure God ordained my kid and I to be paired together.

a) He has the same name as a Laverne & Shirley character.
b) He was super chill most of the day, but one time he became a speed-racer & almost ran me across the zoo. Where was he going? To see the goats of course!

Yep. This is my kind of kid. 🙂

My favorite day was Thursday. We took a taxi across town to get to the center where we would pick up some of the younger kids. Ramona brought a few of the children out to us, and they began pairing up with one of our team. I did not have a child yet…

And then he came. He was the cutest little boy ever. & I mean ever. He’s about 2 ½ years old. I was warned that he sometimes hits and pulls hair, and, if he were to start crying, it would probably be because he dropped the rattle he was carrying.

Ahh. Instant love. “A” & I walked all over town together. He was SO well behaved. Walking hand-in-hand we hummed, sang syllables, and laughed while we repeated the words “uh-oh.” When he was tired of walking, he would sit down on the ground and expect me to pick him up. While holding him, he enjoyed looking into my sunglasses — where he could see his reflection. Then he would hum and press his forehead against mine, and immediately begin giggling.

We stopped at McDonald’s to get some juice — which I had to help him drink. He usually drinks from a bottle, but today, we were drinking straight from the cup. Most of the juice was spilled all over me [and the skirt I borrowed from Carmen], but it was definitely worth it.

On the way back to the center, I pushed him in the stroller — while one of the little girls sat in the back. + I may have managed to carry my cappuccino without spilling. I think I'll make a great mom someday. 🙂

I’m telling you… if I could take him home with me next week, I would in a heartbeat. This blog does not do justice to how I felt hanging out with him today. Yep. Best day of WR ministry.
