This is a fun blog. 🙂
Memories. I think they are funny. I think the fact that I can remember the lyrics to a song I sang in 5th grade choir is hilarious.
Music evokes so many memories for me. Kenny Chesney sings a song called, “I Go Back.” The entire song is about songs that stamped his life in one way or another. When he hears these songs, he goes back to another place and time.
This morning, one of my teammates played a song I first heard on Shine.fm while driving through Bourbonnais. I closed my eyes and took a stroll through Bourbonnais.
I could have sworn I was there. I was driving my car, Bidi, through campus – from U.P. to Admissions. I turned left on Kennedy and drove to Court Street – passing Chicago Dough, the street to Sammy’s Pizza, and American Bistro. I took a right and headed toward Riverside – passing by to Miller. I went back out to 17 and drove out of town heading toward Limestone. I drove past Danny’s house. I went back out to Herscher and drove past HCC.
I blinked and closed my eyes again. I was back on campus. This time I drove down Lois and out to Route 50. I drove past Starbucks, Oberweis, Hobby Lobby, JoAnn Fabrics. I went the other direction to Target and Walmart – B-dubs & Dick’s. I took the long way back and drove past North Campus … passing the Strough’s & Mills’ … I ended on 102 driving past the Oaks and DQ.
I remembered every building. Every sign. Every stoplight. I felt as though I were really there.
