This is not a blog post. I mean, I know it kind of looks that way because it’s a post….on my blog….but it’s not. I’ve actually been trying all week to write a blog post without success.
THIS is actually a journal entry, which I am now transcribing onto my blog for blogging purposes. So here ya go.
Today’s thoughts:
While devo-ing this morning in 1 Corinthians 1, I came across verses 26-31, which reads:
“Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many of you were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of this world to shame the wise ; God chose the weak things in this world to shame the strong…. so no one may boast before Him. It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus who has become for us wisdom from God–that is, our righteousness, holiness, and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: ‘Let those who boast boast in the Lord.'”
Boom. Feeling unqualified has been a big thing for me, especially throughout the summer as I interact with campers.
Because I am foolish. Because I am weak. I’m in no position of authority here, I’m not too influential in the grand scheme of things. Almost daily, I encounter situations for which I feel completely unqualified. I am not a licensed caregiver. I am not a nurse. I am not a therapist. I have never been to seminary. And yet here I am, playing these parts in turn throughout the day as campers are under my supervision.
So the good news is that God does not always call the qualified, but He will always qualify those He’s called. In fact, sometimes He calls the most unqualified so that His power may be revealed. When the things we do are CLEARLY out of our realm of capability, God’s glory shines through. When we find strength when we’re weary and light in the darkness, wisdom in our own foolishness, God’s hand is shown.
We may not feel like we’re enough sometimes, and that’s because, on our own, we are not. But the good is news is that it doesn’t end there. When we place our faith and our hope in Jesus, everything changes. In Christ, we are strong enough. In Christ we are wise enough. In Christ, we are enough. We are enough for the task He has called us towards. But we need Jesus in this equation, because WE don’t, He does.
