I refused to “fall back” this year. Sure I savored the extra hour of sleep, and my phone automatically changed to the correct time, but I didn’t touch my watch.
Maybe it was because I’ve been sleeping in too much, or that I really wanted to conduct a social experiment, or just maybe try to lessen the blow of the horrible “spring forward”.
Through the process, some important things have come to light:
I’ve freaked myself out, because I thought I was late for class.
I freaked my friends out because they spied my watch and thought that they were late for
class(or they’d flat out lost an hour somewhere)
I thought changing something on the surface would fix
deeper problems.
How true is that of life?
I’m not here to make war on the quick fixes sold by society. What I will say is that in my own life, so many times I’m able to see the problem, but not the source of the problem. Then I get lured into a superficial solution. As is the case with my watch, it hasn’t worked well. Why?
Because I place the need before the source
As a member of a meager campus ministry, needs abound. We need more people. We need a worship band. We need more campus ministers. We need more small groups. Not that any of these things are bad in and of themselves—I was completely missing the point.
Embrace the needs, they put us in a place where God can get the glory
I was given a book to read, “Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire” by James Cymbala. The book is about a guy who gets thrown into a pastor position at two dying churches in the New Jersey area. It’s a situation that stretches him, to a point where He is crying out to the Lord for guidance. It revealed the source of his problem—insufficiency of truly knowing Christ. More people in the congregation might have addressed some of the physical needs, but the spiritual needs were still present.
This was supposed to be a blog about fundraising. It’s true; I cannot go on the race without the help and support of others. Yet, that is only a need and as much as I desire you(yes, you!) to partner with me in this grand adventure, it is my hope that the Lord would change our hearts beforehand. So if you haven’t yet please take this moment and pray. Pray right now that the Lord would reveal the source of our needs, and allow us to surrender that to Him. Please remember to pray for me, and the wonderful people I’ll be traveling with, that God would continue to prepare our hearts. Thank you!
Be Blessed!
