Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to Him, for our God is our refuge“- Psalm 62:8.

Today I saw this verse come to life. I am a psychology major and I am currently taking a class on adulthood and aging. Today we watched a Ted Talk on stress. The speaker for this topic was a woman by the name of Kelly McGonigal. McGonigal discussed how stress is actually good for you. There have been studies done that show that people who view stress as helpful in life are less likely to die because of stress induced sickness. That’s not all!

McGonigal also talked about a hormone called oxytocin. Oxytocin is a hormone that is released during stress. Oxytocin causes you to want to be close to people who you have strong connections with, the people you have strong relationships with. And when people go to their family member or close friends during stress, this actually helps reduce stress. And by doing this oxytocin helps repair the cells in your heart!! What? Crazy, I know, but there is more!

So I began to think. The most important relationship we have is our relationship with God. In times of stress we can go to God, we can go to that relationship. And when we go to God in times of stress He will literally repair our heart, LITERALLY! God created us to be relational people. Watching this video showed me just one reason why God created us this way. In times of stress we have a hormone that literally repairs our heart cells. But the only way it can do this is if we reach out to others in our time of need. God created us to reach out to Him in our times of need and by doing this, he repairs us not only emotionally and spiritually, but physically as well.

I have added the video to this blog post. If you have an extra 15 minutes you should really take your time to watch it.

So today if you are feeling stressed go to God and ask Him to repair your heart. Pour out your heart to Him, and He will do amazing things. God bless!!
