Trying to write the first blog after officially starting the race has proven more difficult than I expected. There are so many things that have already happened but it’s hard for me to put all these experiences and emotions into words. So I decided I’m just going to try to let ya’ll know what has been going on the past two weeks.
We got to our host’s house on Thursday night. Rueben and Vicky are such amazing people. They love Jesus so much and it’s easy to see their heart through their words and actions. They have 8 kids, and 5 of them were at the house with us for most of the time. God really blessed my team with this host family because they have made us feel SO at home!
Friday and Saturday were labor days. We got in an “assembly line” of sorts and up a huge line of stairs we passed buckets of dirt uphill where they finally reached the top, where they were building a bathroom for all the kids we were expecting on Sunday.
On Sunday night two busses full of kids from 10-17 came to their house and we were the counselors for a teen camp. The amount of work Rueben’s family put into preparing for the camp was unbelievable. There were roughly 5 people who could actually speak Spanish and English and we were with the kids from six in the morning until they fell asleep late at night, so there were definitely some frustrating moments but overall it was an amazing experience.
The camp lasted until Friday, and Saturday we had a free day where we went to the ocean and got to go snorkeling and explore some. It was so awesome! Sunday we packed up our tents and moved to our apartment. It’s about an hour from where we were staying originally and we commute an hour every morning to a different house where we are orchestrating an English camp for local kids. The apartment we’re in is pretty rough living, but we’re getting used to it J We will be doing the English camp this week, next week, and halfway into the next and I have no idea what is in store for us after that!
I usually take a while to revise these blogs and make sure everything makes sense, but wifi is hard to come by and I really want to post this blog to let ya’ll know what’s been going on so please forgive any misspelled words or just anything that might not make sense.
Please continue to pray for me and I am just so thankful for everyone who has supported me so far. Love ya’ll!
-Sadie
