Alright, so continuing my teammate’s challenge, I figured I could talk about something I’m looking forward to in South America.
I chose this route because I wanted to learn Spanish. I want to go and be immersed in it, with real native speakers, forced to engage in conversations with people in Spanish. I know very well that it will be uncomfortable but good because it is a skill that will serve me well.
Living in Texas, being bilingual is something I have always wanted because it is such a huge part of life and culture in West Texas.
Now, it is possible that I’ll get pulled into what’s comfortable by letting others translate for me and speaking only to my fellow teammates who speak English. Let’s hope I can stop myself from that. Let’s hope I’ll let myself be challenged. It’s a new experience to embrace, and I am looking forward to it.
