Tomorrow is going to be a pretty big day. Tomorrow I’m standing up in front of my Louisiana church family and telling everyone about this dream I have to serve on The World Race. So, blog readers, if you could do me a favor I’d appreciate some prayers. I’d appreciate prayers that tomorrow goes smoothly, that I say what I need to say, and that my church family comes with hearts open to hear whatever God has for them in my short little message. Yes, I obviously am looking for financial support because that $20,000 price tag will always be looming over my head until it’s gone, but I trust God to take care of it. I trust God in this process. But, I think, once the message is out there it’s going to be even more real. A Facebook announcement that I’m going was one thing, but this is a room filled with actual people! I’m really doing this thing. And believe me there are a wide range of emotions as you go through the process of deciding to go, getting ready to go, and actually going.

So, tomorrow, my focus is on the great commission in Matthew 28: 18-20, a passage that has inspired me in this desire and this trust.

18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

The great commission is why I believe it is important for me to go. Jesus, knowing all things and wielding all power, commanded the disciples to go into the world and make disciples of all nations for a reason. There was something to gain in the process, and, as someone striving to be a disciple of our Lord Jesus Christ, I want to know what it is. Texas is part of the world, Louisiana is part of the world, and so are the 11 countries I’m going to serve. So I’m going into the world, trusting fully that God will care for me in my needs and be with me and help me grow. And I believe when I get back, I’ll have just a little bit more experience so I can keep serving to make disciples of all nations, wherever in the world I may be.
