A few weeks ago, I finally met my group.
Well, not in person, but in a group chat that apparently existed for several months before that and I was not at all aware. Oh well, the timing is probably better this way. Apparently our group has been through a lot. Unfortunately, we’ve lost a few individuals who intended to go and had to back out. Now, we are currently a small but mighty group of 14 and you can find us here: https://www.worldrace.org/?tab=participants&group=20W0101
Let me tell you, it’s weird trying to get to know people you’ve never actually met but know you’re fixing to spend a year of your life with.
But we do have one thing tying us all together: Christ. We’re trying our best to follow what Christ wants for us. And let me tell you, it SHOWS in our conversations. So much prayer and so much openness and seeking Godly wisdom and advice. It’s a community of Christ-followers that know we’re fixing to be special to one another, and it’s a group of Christ-followers facing similar struggles of fundraising $20,000 and facing 11 months in random cultures we barely know and fixing to sacrifice 11 months of routine and ordinary life for something we can’t even imagine.
I recommend it.
I recommend going through a process like this. I recommend finding strong, faithful God-loving Christ-followers and building a community with them, whether that’s online or that’s in person because it can grow if you let it. You just have to start somewhere.
BUT, in 1 month I will meet them. Pray for us in that. We’re fixing to be a whole new kind of community.
