James 1:22-25
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourself. For if anyone is hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in the mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets – but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.”
My team & I have been diving deep into the book of James every morning during our bible study. While I have enjoyed the whole book of James, James 1:22-25 has really convicted my heart. The journey God has been taking me on lately has been much more inner facing. He has been crushing me on identity. Who He says I am instead of what the world may say. God says we are blessed when we remember who we really are. God calls us His children, redeemed and filled with the spirit. I am not shame, my shortcomings, or insecurities. Because of the cross, Jesus set us free from all of that. How beautiful is that! What we see in the ‘mirror’ of Scripture is Jesus because we are created in His image. God doesn’t see us any differently. James went straight to the point telling believers to obey God’s word! Don’t just listen to it, actually do what it says.We can’t be doers until we hear. We can’t act until we believe and remember what we hear. And what we should be hearing is ‘YOU ARE MINE. YOU ARE LOVED. YOU ARE PLEASING’. Being a doer of the word means looking into scripture and really believing God when he says You are already complete in Jesus. You are my beloved child. The journey the Lord has been taking me on is a beautiful, fulfilling road that I will always cherish. A journey that is all about Him & I as I pursue him daily.
This beautiful pup decided to join me this afternoon as I wrote this!
