Well, my squad has made it safely to Kenya and so far it is plesently chilly. Yes. Chilly.

Not hot and humid like all the movies show. This is the end of the rainy season and it reminds me of an autum day in Ohio. God has started right in with throwing my preconceptions out the window.

I'm amazed that today is Sunday and a I was still in the states a mere two days ago.

At least I think I was.

Being on planes a total of 17 hours, going foward in time by crossing some 6 time zones, and coming to a new continent has messed up my perseption of time just a bit. So forgive me if this post isn't entirely coherent.

Last night we had a layover in Quatar, which has the highest income per capita in the world. I haven't seen a map yet, but they tell me it's in the Middle East. My geography knowledge is already improving!

On the plane last night I looked out the window at about 3:30 and saw Orion shining in the sky. Something was different about this familiar constalation that made me catch my breath. For one, it was so bright and clear, each star sparkled like a diamond. And it was straight across from me! It was not above, it was just beside me and seemed to be even with the plane!

The moon was no where in sight but I could faintly see the rolling clouds below in the light of thousands of stars. It was a sight full of the glory of God. I could feel His love shining on me through those little pin-points of light.

I suppose that's the sort of thing can only be seen on a red eye flight. And the sight made that exhausting, endless night worth it.

I am loved. I have favor. I know I am in the right place.

And I had another adventure when we piled into two buses to be taken to a hostel for the night. All our big packs had been tied on top and my sleeping pad decided to take a tour of Nirobi by itself. Thankfully, someone on our bus saw it fall and our wonderful squad leader, Lucus, ran back to get it. But someone in a car had stopped and picked it up already! When they saw him running by the road they pulled over to give it to him.

God is so good to me! I kept thinking what would have happened if no one had seen it fall, or if the person who picked it up had wanted to keep it. I would have had a few very uncomfortable nights and be out a chunk of money to get a new one. But that didn't happen and I am grateful!

When we arived at the hostel we started getting everything off the bus. Emily noticed a palm tree on the other side of the compound wall was on fire! Which is really wierd in general, especially on such a rainy day.

But what makes it doubly strange is Y squad has had all kinds of professies about us spreading the gospel like a fire to the nations. And about growth symbolised by a tree. So someone on the squad had developed a symbol for the squad of a tree with flames instead of leaves. And by the time the guards of the hostel had found the fire extinguishers and run around the outside of the wall to get to the tree, it was completely burned with a red hot fire and the leaves had been burned and replaced with flames!

Yet another confirmation that we are following Jesus on the right path.

Fundraising update. All I need is $5,911 to be fully funded. I thank God that He has provided and continues to provide in the big and small things!
