My life now includes some things it never has before. Like the eight infants and toddlers here at the New Faith Family children’s home. I’ve babysat before, and I used to work in my church’s nursery sometimes, but
to work with this many children under the age of 4 day after day is a new experience for me.
But I’ve surprised myself by enjoying it!
No, it’s not always fun to try to get four 3 and 4 year olds in bed at the same time.
And it’s not always easy to entertain three 2 year olds especially since one is a special needs child.
And it’s usually pretty boring caring for a 6 month old baby who won’t ever stop crying because his mother is in jail and he already has attachment issues at his young age.
But these children are so beautiful and God is teaching me things through this ministry. Because even though this looks nothing like the door to door, preaching to the Muslims, praying for the sick kind of ministry we did for all of Africa, this is ministry. This is what Jesus called true religion: caring for the orphans and widows.
So it’s not all sunshine and flowers, but sometimes a little girl will smile at me when I walk in the door.
Sometimes a little boy will fall asleep as I carry him in my arms.
Sometimes I get to feed them and I take the opportunity to sing my captive audience every song I know, while they sit quietly and absorb every bit.
Sometimes the 6 month old will stop crying and sleep peacefully while one of the toddlers watches over him.
Sometimes the 2 year old with cerebral palsy will take a few halting steps in his special walker.
Sometimes I can give one of the staff here a much needed break.
Sometimes I realize that even though I’m tired, I’m being Jesus to these children so I can still go back and do it again and again.
Support update: I am now at $12,281 so I only need $2,519 to be fully funded. If you would like to join me in this ministry you can click on Support Me on your left and follow the simple directions to give online.
Thank you so much for your prayers and support. Please pray for these toddlers and infants and the other 20 kids at the New Faith Family children’s home. Also pray for my new team that God will continue the work of building strong friendships among us.
