This year my Thanksgiving happened to be in the Philippines. If someone had told me last year that my next Thanksgiving would be spent, instead of with my family, with a bunch of people I hadn’t even met yet; that I would not have a job; and I would be in a country that didn’t even know what Thanksgiving is, I wouldn’t think it could be something I would enjoy.
But this Thanksgiving turned out to be one of my favorites. I love my team and my squad like family and being surrounded by them is the only way I would want to spend this Thanksgiving. I’m so thankful for the way God has directed my life. I’m thankful for the family He has given me both at home and here in the Philippines.
Several of the women here are very talented in the kitchen and we have some missionary friends who were kind enough to bring us a real American turkey and pumpkin. So we were able to have a traditional Thanksgiving complete with turkey, dressing, corn casserole, green bean casserole, rolls, mash potatoes and gravy, pumpkin pie, and apple pie. We invited friends over and had a table full of good food and great friends.
And afterwards we went outside and cooked marshmallows over a fire. I couldn’t be happier.
