It has been a rough week y’all! I’ve had funerals, unfortunate accidents, migraines, lots of travel and little sleep. I did get to spend some much needed time with my family though, which was great. Also I am only $4,000 away from being fully funded!
After a week like this I have been meditating on Ecclesiastes 7:14 which says:
“Enjoy prosperity while you can, but when hard times strike, realize that both come from God. Remember that nothing is certain in this life.”
Sometimes things are going so well for me I start to think I can do this on my own.
I forget who is allowing everything to fall into place in my favor.
I forget that God is showering me with grace.
I start swimming in deep waters and forget that I CAN’T swim! When everything is going wrong, I can’t swim. Without Jesus I will drown in my sorrows.
It’s for that reason that God allows both good and bad times. He blends them into my life in such a way that I cannot predict my future or rely on my own wisdom and power.
I have to realize that when times are good I can’t become complacent or get too comfortable. God will also allow bad times to drive me back to Him. (He knows it works!) God is sovereign and He will always bring good results out of my struggles.
The hard times are also a great time to let your light shine! Matthew 5:16 says:
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
??Matthew? ?5:16? ?
This scripture reminds me that even when I’m having a bad week, I am still a child of God.
Even if I’m having a bad week I still am called to glorify God.
There is no time off from following Jesus.
I could sit around and complain about my bad week. I could just sit around and mope until the week is over, or I could “Let my light shine before men”. I could be joyful in all situations because I am a child of God!
No amount of bad days will change that!
John 1:5 says:
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.”
Jesus is the light! In my bad days I must look to the light, otherwise I will be walking blindly in the darkness. When I live in the light, I can see clearly that He is in control.
Thank you all for the prayers and support so far! I am $4,000 away from being fully funded! Also my team has received our first assignment!
We will be in El Salvador helping with English in the community, discipleship of church members, and construction on children’s classrooms and a church. Please keep me and my team in your prayers!
