I had a Facebook memory pop up on my newsfeed today from 3 years ago. At this time, I was about 9 months saved in Christ and attending a Bible School in Branson, MO. I feel strongly that this post was a timely word then and is a timely word today. May you be blessed for reading it and for considering the truths revealed in it! I love each of you very much!

This week at the Kanakuk Institute, we were blessed to have Kerby Anderson, from Probe Ministries, come speak to us on the issues of world religions, apologetics, and truth decay. I received an overload of information, but there was one thing that really spoke to me. That is the topic of post-modernism. I don’t mean to make a generalization, so please understand that I’m simply stating observations that I see regularly in my life – I realize that the entire world is not like this. However, it would seem to me that as a society, we are moving toward this concept of post-modernism. Allow me explain this further.
By post-modernism, I mean that people are trending toward the belief that truth is not discovered, but created. Another way to put it, it is the belief that truth doesn’t exist except as the individual wants it to exist. I believe that this is a dangerous concept to move towards because it is implying that we decide what is true and what is not true. It worries me when I see us moving toward this ideal because we have a lot of truths in this world that could be declared not true if we say that truth is created rather than discovered. I don’t believe this makes sense though when I think about the equation, “1+1=2”. We are taught this is truth from a very young age because someone discovered it to be true consistently. But now people are saying truth is decided and not discovered, so I could theoretically say “1+1=3” and be right because “it’s truth to me”. Can “1+1=2” and “1+1=3” both be true? Can my truth be different from someone else’s truth? What does it mean for something to be true? Merriam-Webster dictionary defines true as agreeing with the facts or not false. Fact is defined as something that truly exists or happens. Based on these definitions, the logical person would conclude that “1+1=2” is true and “1+1=3” is false because “1+1=3” does not truly exist nor happen while “1+1=2” consistently exists and happens. So, while there are many more examples, this example tells me that there is true information in this world and there is false information in this world.
With all that said, I believe that there is an absolute truth, and it is discovered, not created. In fact, denial of an absolute truth is self-defeating. One who denies an absolute truth would be making the claim that relativism is true for everyone, everywhere, at all times. But that itself is an absolute truth. Do you see the problem?
So if we can agree that there is an absolute truth, the next logical step is to determine what that truth is. I believe that the truth is found in the Bible. Yes, I believe this because I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and my life has been transformed as a result. The life change resulting from my decision is enough evidence for me to believe that the Bible is true, but I realize this is not enough evidence for those who have not experienced a life transformation. In regards to that audience, I believe there is plenty of evidence, in the form of manuscripts, archaeology, and historical accuracy, to prove that the Bible is the most accurate historical book ever discovered and that it holds knowledge to the absolute truth. If you would like to know more information about the manuscript evidence or archaeology findings that prove the Bible’s validity as the source of absolute truth, leave a comment or send me a message and I will provide you with the some facts. However, I would even more so love for you to look into the manuscript evidence yourself. While you are doing this, I would encourage to investigate the claims of Jesus Christ – that He is God’s son; that He inhabited a human body and lived among real men and women; that He died on the cross for the sins of humanity; that He was buried and was resurrected three days later; and that He is still alive and can change a person’s life even today. Please let me know what you find! Thanks again for reading. Love you all!
In Christ,
Ryan O’Keefe
