I felt like I wasn’t telling as many stories about what’s going on in my life as I should be on here, so here’s a quick one from tonight that I thought was blog-worthy.

The guys of K squad have a few things we all have in common, but the most important: a love of frisbee. In Cambodia we played frisbee all the time. In Honduras we started playing with locals, but then tragedy arose. We lost all our frisbees to a dog next to where we were staying.

But Noah James had a dream. A dream that his father would bring us a new frisbee when he came to visit us just before month seven. Three months later, I’m sitting on the steps of a guest house in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia with the man who had that dream, at 7:42pm with a cup of Ethiopian coffee in each of our hands, and the warm feeling in our souls that accompanies the knowledge that we do indeed have a new frisbee. (Thank you to Nathan James!)

About two hours ago, Around 6:00pm, three of the guys and I laid eyes on our newly acquired frisbee and decided we wanted to go throw it around for a bit. We went out to a field which was scattered with bones of different animals (no lie) in front of the guest house with the intent of throwing our frisbee with each other, and four or five kids aged about 12-16 who were hanging out there. In my 18 hours I’ve spent in this country, it’s already been made clear how friendly and sociable everyone in this country is. Within a matter of 15 minutes people who had been walking by, and people who lived nearby joined us. By sundown at about 7:00pm there were about 20 of us varying from probably 4 years old to 60 years old all throwing the frisbee and talking with each other (thankfully a lot of people here speak English).

A few of the locals: Ebenezer, Caleb, and Luis (we think), approached Noah and asked him if we could make some kind of game out of the frisbee, and now we have plans to play a game of ultimate frisbee with them tomorrow morning, before we head off to where our ministry is at this month. Sports ministry has definitely been one of the guys’ favorite things to do on this trip, and we’re grateful God already gave us an opportunity for that here.

***Thank you again to everyone who supported me in anyway and helped make nights like these possible for others and myself. Please keep the people of Ethiopia, and us in your prayers, much love to all you guys!
