“Feeding, Feeeedddding…”
This is what we call out as we walk the streets of some of the more economically challenged areas here in the Philippines. And as we do the kids come running; they pop out of back allies and curtained doors or in the case of the little girl pictured below out of a cardboard box; they abandon their basketballs and their games of tag to run home and grab a “plastic”. Then they’ll bounce back outside with a plastic in hand; a colorful mug, a pitcher, a baggie, any kind of Tupperware will do. And with that we pop open the trunk of the car and open up shop; in the back we have a big plastic tub full of stew and it’s time to ladle it out…
Ryan has been quite the chef and has been waking up early to help prepare the stew which consists mainly of eggs, rice, and beans. I was able to join him this morning and chop onions and garlic…just call me sous chef!
Once the line has died down and their little tummies are full we put on a Bible story skit; most recently it was Ryan telling the story of Jonah while my teammates did their best to channel their inner Broadway star and act it out on the fly. We will then walk the streets (usually while being followed by a posse of munchkins) and get to know the community while explaining to them why we’re here and offering to pray over their needs with them.
These “feedings” are where you can find us two Bueches on most days.
Our ministry host, Kids International Ministries (KIM) has a lot going on here in our little community called Quatro. And because of that each day looks different and has our team busy with all kinds of projects; construction, working at the pregnancy center, or children’s home, teaching at the school, tutoring, evangelism, or cooking and facilitating feedings…it’s fun to see our team mates different talents and skills being used.
