La0s was treating us good…we had full days of construction, we had the best host who kept us laughing and learning, the food was delicious, and we were loving where we were at.

But as one on The Race should expect by now, change came rolling around to knock us off our feet just when we thought we had this month all figured out…

A friend of our host in a small town in South La0s called and said he could use our help; in what felt like a whirlwind of confusion I found myself packed up and on a van headed south bright and early the next morning. After 7 hours in said van we arrived and were greeted by kind faces but very broken English and a serious lack of a plan…I talked myself down “it’s fine, first days are always awkward, it’ll get better” but then I saw our bathroom and after a long travel day and a less than ideal situation a sad squatty potty and bucket shower was all I needed to see to shatter my mental pep talk.

Truthfully; I still don’t know why God brought us here and I’m trying not to let it get me down…the days are long and so far they are not filled with a lot but I read in Mark 11:24 “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours”.

I believe that God is going to do something with us here and I am praying He will show us how we fulfill His purpose in this Southern Province.

I also have to remind myself of this: Dashing through the snow

In a one-horse open sleigh
O’er the fields we go
Laughing all the way

Bells on bob tail ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight!

Our 7-hour ride was purposeful; lthough less well-known than the opening, the remaining verses depict high-speed youthful fun. In the second verse, the narrator takes a ride with a girl and loses control of the sleigh:

“My sheep recognize my voice, I know them and they follow me” John 10:27 (Thank you Grandma Debbi for this verse of encouragement!)

So now, my team and I are waiting for God to lead us, and we will follow. We have to make the best of the remainder of our time here even if that means being joyful about our living situation, squatty potty and all, Ha!
